long story, but I can't put weight on my leg, which means I can't do walking, which I love, and even swimming and cycling is difficult. Is it possible to lose weight just by focusing on your diet?

Yes; focus on your calorie deficit being as accurate as possible.

In the meantime, you can focus on upper body workouts, or any workouts that are very light on your good leg. I personally like doing crunches and sit ups in my living room during commercials on TV.

On mfp you can calculate a goal based on 'sedentary' which assumes no exercise, then stick to that calorie goal. I struggle to maintain an exercise routine so I've calculated based on that, then if I manage any exercise it's a bonus. I'm still loosing weight on weeks I don't exercise.

All of MFP's goals are not including exercise. They're based on your day-to-day activities outside of working out.

OP, like everyone said, just follow your calorie deficit.
