Hello my name is Cherrie, I am in the Leicester, Asheville area, if you are in this area or close by, send me a message or friend request me. I am looking for friends to share recipes with, fitness goals with, support, and even walking together and/or exercising. I am transitioning from the SAD way of eating and trying to get to a fully plant based diet. I have 3 kids ages 3, 5, and 6, a dog and a husband... He makes it hard to change my lifestyle sometimes, so if you have any advise on that, then awesome, :-) Im trying to get everyone on board on this healthy lifestyle. I have a lot of pain and illnesses I am guessing due to my old eating habits, I am wanting to kick them in the butt HARD and get better. so if you have kids, awesome, maybe they can show my kids how to eat better and if you have a husband or wife or whatever, awesome, we can all get together and take this journey head on. if you are single and no kids, that's cool too.. just looking for an awesome friend and fitness and health partner. Hope to hear from you soon

Hello Cherie, I am not quite in your area, Huntsville Alabama, to be specific. But I do have a husband and 3 children 9,6, and 2 (almost 3)and successfully converted us all into vegans 2 years ago. My husband and I are 100% veggie all the time, as is my 2 year old. The school age kids, it's harder to control, I don't want them to be left out at school parties. So they still do eat a bit of dairy/egg when someone bring in cupcakes. I am hoping as they get older and they understand the ethical implications of eating those things, they will refrain. It's a process I have been through and am willing to offer any advice I can.

Have you looked into groups in your area on Meetup.com for more local support? It's an interesting adventure being vegan in the south, for sure.

Also, I just wanted to say, while I would never, ever discourage someone from eating more fruits and veggies or from attempting a plant based diet (go vegans!) It isn't a magic bullet for health. When I transitioned, I actually wound up gaining about 10 lbs, on top of my already substantial weight problem.

It wasn't until I started controlling portions that I started losing weight. I am still at the beginning of THAT adventure.

    Anyway, I wish you well,
    Good luck!
  • that is great to hear. I also just started looking into the meetup for my area. I found a couple groups, just have to dive in and say hi. :-P Its so hard though, when looking for understanding people, I don't want to get verbally beaten up for a set back in my diet. this is a process and for the most part I have eliminated most everything animal... Atleast I am heading in the right direction and am going to continue on that path. :-)
I hear it is easy to gain at first in the transition. :-0 But I am trying to learn portion control as well. Its all a journey, you live, you learn.

Its real nice meeting you and thank you for commenting. feel free to add me if you like.
