Nudity in UK Gyms?

Hello!
This may sound like a bit of an odd question but is it common to be naked in the changing areas of gyms in the UK?
I moved here last year and just joined a local gym - today was my first day. It was very quiet with hardly anyone there and whenever I was in the changing area I was on my own. However, there were few cabins and in the shower room only separate shower cabins with doors.
I've been to gyms in Germany and the Netherlands and it's common there to get dressed/undressed in the main changing area. Is it the same here? I don't want to offend anyone by "flashing" them.
The gym I go to also has a sauna, one for both men and women. Outside the sauna area there's a sign that asks you to dress properly. What does that mean? Will a towel do? I've only been to saunas where everyone's naked so will be people be offended if I wear nothing but a towel?
Many thanks in advance for your help

Hi..change in main dressing area but put on swim wear in sauna..we don't go naked in saunas unless it is a single sex gym x

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly That's good to know I would have walked into the sauna with a towel or less0

I happily go fully naked in the changing room area when I'm changing clothes as long as it's single sex.
Definitely wear swimwear in the sauna!0 -
Don't know about anywhere else but in the US there are people that seem to just wander around the locker room naked. I think that *is* their workout.
At the one gym I used to go to there was this one guy who I always saw there wandering around the locker room completely naked. Not carrying a towel, or shampoo bottle or anything. Just wandering. He would be there like that when I get there... was there if I went back to grab something from my locker... was there when I was done my workout... always just wandering around with nothing on. I never saw him out in the gym working out. Was pretty creepy...0 -
I think it depends on the gym and clientele. At my gym, its very common for the women to walk around naked, in skivvies, or a towel while we get ready for work in the am. Most of us know each other because the 5:30 am crowd is a small one. It doesn't bother me what state of undress you are sporting as long as you aren't in my personal space. I get dressed when my body lotion is dry until then depends on the day and what i brought to wear.
In our sauna, towels are acceptable.

I would ask a gym employee just to be sure.0
