Lifting Weights

I've been at this weight loss thing since last spring and kicking it around MFP since August. I've cut about 40 lbs since the beginning, beginning with mostly calorie deficit, cardio, and body weight exercises.
I want to pick up heavy stuff now. I have absolutely no idea where to start, what to read, and how to learn so as not to blow my spleen out of my ears.
Suggestions? Help? Earmuffs?
Thanks
Stevie

I'm pretty new to weights and am using an app on Android called WorkIt (make sure it's all one word or it won't come up).
You can create workout routines and choose the day/s on which you wish to do them. It also breaks it down into areas (shoulders, biceps, triceps, and so on) and gives little gif examples know how to do those exercises.
Further to that you can log your sets, and put in reps and weight and later, as you progress, see progress charts

I would look into Stronglifts or Starting Strength. They tend to be the most popular beginner programs. Others use New Rules of Lifting or look at some of the pre-made routines at bodybuilding.com. I looked at SL and SS and ended up using SL because it is super simple (only 5 exercises) and came pretty pre-packaged since I knew nothing. Plus it was free, though they are always trying to sell you upgrades.0

i would suggest finding a good beginner program like strong lifts and 5x5 and stick with that for about six months and then bump to a more intermediate program like an upper/lower split where you are hitting upper and lower two times per week…
a good book is starting strength…

You tube has some good videos you can follow along with.0

If you want a little more iso work, ICF 5x5 is like SL 5x5 with iso. Its a good beginners program as well0
