Are you eating like a Viking? You should be, according to the magazines. Erik the Red diets are in. As for paleo, in the words of another famous Norwegian..Let It Go.
We are now supposed to "Eat Red" - like the vikings did. I guess this is similar to the Mediterranean stuff. Some magazine person lost weight eating like a Viking, which includes berries (yum), canola oil and root veggies.
I don't think a hat with horns is required - the article I read didn't mention it - but personally, I think it would be an awesome idea.
I like this Nordic Diet stuff. Much more up my alley than the caveman diet was. I may need a hat soon enough, lol.
If you're Eating Red, please let me know how you like it.
If you're still eating like a caveman, you're behind the times. Catch up and eat like a Viking!

Who knew Vikings had canola oil0

I love beer. Does that count?0

I would say that the magazines have some terrible anthropologists on staff.
Then again, I think taking diet advice from some hack writer (I get to say that. I was a hack freelance writer for YEARS) is stupid as hell. Those people write what they're told to write and slant it as they told to slant it by the editors (who are instructed by their advertisers).
So, yeah... NO.0 -
vikings had canola oil, really?0

Great, a new fad diet.

That is one of the funniest things I ever read here...and I actually did LOL. Then I wondered if your fantasy included a hat. Don't tell me! It's more fun to guess.0 -
The Nordic Diet?
http://www.amazon.com/The-Nordic-Diet-Organic-Lifestyle/dp/1616081899
I took nutrition years ago in college. The instructor took us to the grocery store to learn how to read labels and spot false "healthy" foods. She recommended shopping the outside perimeter of the store, as most foods in the aisles are processed. This diet follows the same idea I think. It's just more convenient buying from the grocery store vs shooting your dinner in the wild.
"The Nordic Diet is all about eating locally sourced seasonal ingredients in a balanced diet of protein, carbohydrates, and beneficial fats. The traditional diet of Northern Europe emphasizes quality homemade and homegrown food—with an attempt at moving away from processed foods—and consists of a wide variety of grains, berries, vegetables, fish, poultry, and game meats." Do we raid and pillage during or after the meal?0

I understand the Vikings were particularly concerned about inflammation, actually. It's going to be featured on Season 3 of that TV show.0

And don't forget frequent workouts on Fjordictrack ellipticals and treadmills!
Not bludgeoning your enemy to death with a hammer and jumping rope with their innards? Well, there goes today's workout. Hmph.

Only if they get in my way as I shop around the edges of the grocery store. *nods* true story
Oh, so that was YOU.
My intestines still hurt, by the way.

If this is based on the idea that Scandanavian countries have a low percentage of obese people therefore it must be THIS "diet" i can assure you that isn't the case. Everyone is just so gosh darn active and consistently bike riding/walking/hiking/skiing/etc. and we lack a large percentage of prepackaged or processed foods. Nothing like biking 30km a day and then having to cook every single meal from scratch.
just sayin.0
