Pockets puckering on shorts

Like many of us here I am changing shape quite rapidly, and so some of my clothes don't fit the way they used to. My mom always used to tell me that if your pockets don't lie flat, then your pants/shorts don't fit.
I have a pair of shorts that I like and seem to fit quite well in the waist / legs, but for some reason now the pockets do pucker out a bit. Is it time to retire them?

You could retire them from simple casual wear when you go out I suppose. You could wear the shorts when you're mowing the lawn...0
