For those of you who have been where i am, dieting and exercising, and then forgetting or not caring. Then getting back on track, and then off again. When it finally stuck, what was the difference? What tips can you give to help get on track and then stay on track? How do you make it easier to stay focused?

I think as far as exercise you need to find something you really love doing otherwise it can be hard to stick with it.

Also make it all part of your routine. I plan my food the night before so I know what I'm eating and I don't go off track. When I don't plan my meals I get stressed out and don't know what to eat/ end up not eating at all so it really works well for me.
  • I look at old pictures of myself when I feel I'm losing motivation,I make monthly goals which help me too :)

Like CatLady, when I first started, I took a "before" pic in all of my shirtless glory. I put it on the fridge & told my wife "This doesn't come down until I'm under 200 lbs." She HATED it...but it worked, and after 12 weeks I had taken it down.

You have to address it head-on or you'll never get it done.

the difference was when I said I cared and I wasn't lying.

I let my actions speak louder than my resolutions and I live up my word, because when I give my word, I mean it. Without that, what do you have?

Broken promises hurt, so why would I break promises to myself?

I'm definitely going to do this!! Ok, it might come down if company is coming over, but i think that looking at that pic in the evening when i keep coming to the fridge for a snack might make me stop opening it.

I read somewhere that motivation is fleeting, and people who stick with their healthy lifestyle rely on discipline. They get up and work out, even when they don't want to or when they don't feel like it, because they are disciplined enough to do so. It really got me thinking and is something I want to encorporate into my daily life.
  • Ive reached a point, health-wise, that I no longer have a choice. Being a former athlete, my lack of motivation astounds me. I have to get it right this time....I appreciate this post/thread and will put your suggestions to use.
