Kia Ora and G'day from Aotearoa/New Zealand!

My name is James and I'm new to MFP. I am 1.88m (6'2) and 150kg (330lbs). I turn 40 in February and suffer from weight related health issues like sleep apnoea, high blood pressure and pre-Type 2 diabetes. Food has been my primary coping mechanism (I don't drink or smoke) for years, and I comfort eat with bread products.

This year I've decided to make a serious effort to improve my poor eating habits and increase my minimal exercise routine. As a Maori male I risk becoming another health statistic if I don't take charge of my situation now. My goal is bring my weight down to a more manageable 100kg (220lbs), a loss of 50kg (110lbs) over a planned 12 month period.

My previous efforts at weight management have been haphazard at best, and primarily a solo effort. I joined MFP because of the active social community and the potential wealth of knowledge, experience and support. Over the past week I've been familiarizing myself with the Food and Exercise journals/databases on MFP as well as the goal setting and measurement tracking sections.

I have started working towards a sustainable caloric deficit eating regime and moving towards sustained daily exercise. Currently I use my Nintendo Wii (boxing, cycling, tennis) and will start walking and callisthenic exercise. Slowly, but surely as they say.
