Walking and Calories

Okay, I have a Manual Treadmill. When i got it that calorie-distance thing was broke off already. But i can still walk on it
So does anyone have any suggestions on how to calculate calories burned? Because the only way I can think of figuring it is to take my pulse every ten minutes and then average them together and then use the calculator i have that lets you in put your weight, age, duration of your heart rate being whatever and it tells you roughly how many calories you burned....is that the best thing I can do you think? Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated!!!

Can you still tell at what speed you are walking? You can prob use an online calculator in that case. a heart rate monitor would tell you also0

NO can't tell what speed... ;(0

without distance or speed monitored on your manual treadmill, your best bet is to actually walk a mile (school track, etc) and time that. Determine your speed and use that to calculate your mileage and calorie burn. Every 4-6 weeks, re-walk the mile to account for increases in endurance, stamina and speed.
for example, you walk 1 mile (4 standard laps) at the high school track in 20 minutes. That speed is 3mph (60mins/20min/mile).0 -
If you can ever figure out the distance, it's your weight x distance x 0.53. I saw that on an article a couple of weeks ago and it matches what I get on my treadmill at the gym.0

Another option .... maybe not the best. If you walk to music find the beats per minute (BPM) at
http://jog.fm/
You can plug in a song name, or plug in a MPH range .... versitile
I walk about 4 MPH (60/4=15:00) ..... songs that range are in the 140's
143 BPM for a 15:04 mile
Robert Palmer Simply Irresistible
143 BPM best for a 15:04 mile
Britney Spears ToxicPop
141 BPM best for a 15:24 mile
The Presidents of the United States of America Video Killed the Radio
144 BPM best for a 14:55 mile
Michael Bublé It's a Beautiful Day
142 BPM best for a 15:14 mile
Brad Paisley AlcoholCountry
144 BPM best for a 14:55 mile

You could always download the free Nike+running app onto ur phone and hold it while u walk on ur treadmill. At the end of ur workout it will give u the distance, pace and calories burned.0

Does that work on aneroid?0 -
If your only concerned with calories burned and not distance/pace then I would invest in a heart rate monitor that keeps track of calories. You can also use it for other activities as well.

i thought nike + only worked with GPS, meaning you actually had to be moving locations and not just walking in place0 -
You can either go with a heart rate monitor or a pedometer, i think one of those two is your best option0
