fitbit zip or heart rate moniter ?

i have been looking at both, i do like the idea of them but i want something that can measure my calories burned for the enitire day, this including my workouts and when im not working out, im so confused, can anybody help me ?

You're comparing apples to oranges. They do different things. Based on your post, you want a Fitbit. A HRM is not a useful tool in measuring your calorie burn at rest. A Fitbit will measure your burn for the day and including some exercise like walking and running. You can't really measure weight lifting/strength training with either of these tools so I manually add it.
That said, many people have and use both.0 -
The only devise I'm aware of that gauges calorie burn for the entire day is the BodyMedia Fit or BodyBugg devices. The HR Monitor is great if you want to know caloried burn when working out, the Fitbit devices (and Jawbone Up, etc.) are good for those looking to get up and move more each day as it works best for walking.
There are so many of these devices and new ones coming out that you need to know what kind of activity you want to gauge, how long you want to wear it, and what will be best for motivating you!

I have both, and if I had to choose just one, I would go for the HRM. When I first began exercising, I was using MFP's calorie burn estimates and not losing much weight at all. I found I MFP was waaayyyyy over estimating how many calories I burned during exercise. After using the HRM to record my exercise, I started seeing the scales move. I am now on my 2nd Polar FT4, and I love it. I paid about $90 for it.
The FitBit does gauge your calorie burn for the entire day. If you can squeeze an extra $60, the FitBit Zip is really a handy device. It's been helpful to see what my calorie burn for an entire day and adjust my eating accordingly.
However, as I said, if I had to pick just one..........I'd go with the HRM hands down.0
