Hey everyone.. quick question.. I have started using MFP regularly for the past month although Ive been a member for quite some time... My husband and I started doing body beast and although I enjoy the weight lifting I am failing to lose any weight even though I am counting calories. I have not gained either. We have also started the Couch potato to 5K and I am on week 2. I have never been a runner and I have signed up for a 5k in may!! yikes although I am excited.. My question is.... is weight lifting normal for someone to gain weight with or just stay the same?? the running is new so I am hoping that will bring on some wt loss.... I am frustrated but still motivated...I have never been more ready to get healthy! TIA

Hey there,
Muscle gain would obviously depend greatly on your diet, as long as you are eating at your optomum calories to gain muscle and lifting heavy enough to be putting pressure on the muscles you're working then I see no reason for you not to gain.
Different people gain at different speeds, it could be worth looking at your intake and make.sure that you are eating enough for muscle generation.
Here (clickable link) is a great calorie and macro calculator based on scoobysworkshop that should help you get an accurate idea of your optomum intake based on your exact stats.
As far as running is concerned, it is all about perseverance. Many will tell you not to do cardio and expect to gain muscle, if that were true I would be making no muscle gain (I do both strength training and cardio daily), just be sure to eat back the calories you loose whilst running.
Wishing you all the very best.
