growing up, every night after he came home from work I was used to seeing my dad sit by the fire with a newspaper in one hand (maybe not a good idea dad!) and a nutcracker in the other. after we moved, for whatever reason my dad stopped this habit. just recently however (about 7-8 years since we moved) my dad came home from the store and as I was helping him put the groceries away I noticed he purchased a large mesh bag that was filled with various nuts. I said to my dad "wow dad we havent had these in the house for a while". my dad laughed as he grabbed a nutcracker and showed me the proper way to crack these open. I then asked my dad "you use to eat these all the time, why did you stop all of a sudden?" my dad replied "after we moved, it just didn't feel right. I grew up with your Nono (my dads dad) sitting by the fire with a newspaper in one hand and a nutcracker in the other. Now that our new house doesn't have a fireplace I just couldn't relax like that any more."

I then asked my dad, "well then what made you buy these again?" my dad replied "well luke, despite everything your Nono went through, the doctors always said he had fantastic cholesterol levels, they could never figure out why though." I smirked and said "well yeah dad apparently nuts help keep your heart healthy, is that why you bought them?" my dad laughed and said "that and because they were on sale!"

thanks for reading
