upcoming wedding - when to slow loss/maintain?

Hi, I am a bridesmaid at a wedding on 10th April and I don't have my dress yet as I am still actively losing. I'll probably get my dress in March and I will obviously want to still fit in it by the wedding so my questions are:
Should I change my loss to 0.5lb/week in the run up to the wedding or should I go to maintenance?
When should I do this?

I still have a fair bit to lose so I'm currently set to 1.5lb/week and will be continuing after the wedding (probably at 1lb/week)

My current stats are:
Female
5'6
SW: 210lbs approx
CW: 174.75lb
GW: 133-140lb

Thanks in advance!

I'd change the loss to 1/2 lb a week after you get your dress so you don't have to worry about changing sizes. The week of the wedding you might want to take a diet break and eat at maintenance. Then have fun at the wedding - don't even worry about your calorie intake that much...then go back to your weight loss goals again after the wedding.

    Agree with this.

The great thing about losing weight is that you can alter dresses down up to 3 sizes before they lose their shape/can't be altered further.

Double check with the place you are ordering your dress from to make sure that ordering in March will have it to you at least 1-2 weeks before the wedding. You'll want to be able to try it on and get it hemmed or taken in, if needed, and that can take a few days to a week depending on the seamstress.

Thank you all, good idea to check about ordering the dress, I'll do that soon as I may need to order a bit earlier. Luckily it is a small wedding and the bride has given me free rein on the dress so it's up to me (so I can do this in my own time...and choose something flattering!) I'm currently definitely in a UK 16 and in stretchy UK 14's so I'm thinking in another couple of months I will be firmly in a 14, maybe even a 12. I'll see how things look in the middle of Feb and make a decision on dress size.

I will switch to 0.5lb/week loss, I hopefully want to keep momentum so think this may be better than maintenance, although I certainly plan to enjoy the hen night and wedding!

    Thanks for your advice :)

I would check with the shop you are ordering from to get their opinion on timelines for ordering and altering. Don't get too hung up on numbers for bridal/bridesmaids dresses...my friend got married last fall and she normally wears a 2-4 US in most things, and her wedding dress was a size 6!

Thanks Jbee, I will definitely check with the shop :) I'm not worried about sizes at all, just that I don't order a size that I then end up dieting out of! Haha

When my friend got married years ago I was losing weight. I didn't change anything. I let the dressmaker (or whatever they call them) know that I was losing weight. I had a final fitting closer to the wedding and all worked out well. And I looked quite smashing, if I do say so myself. LOL!

It's nice for you to even consider changing your goals for your friend. I'm not that selfless, ha ha.

if you have free reign as to what style of dress you get, do you necessarily have to get it in a shop where you have to order it? Can you not go to a dress shop that carries in stock dresses and buy off the rack? That way you can wait up until a couple of weeks (or even a week) before the wedding to make the final purchase.

Hi, sorry I think I was a bit unclear, I'm not getting the dress from an official wedding shop per se, but I will likely have to order online as I don't live near any decent shops and it is rare that I get any time without my 3 year old to go into town and shop properly so I will need to check delivery times for the dress. Doing this I'll probably order 2 sizes and send whichever one doesn't fit back :)

This is a similar dress to what I have in mind so hopefully it'll be forgiving too! Also the colour will be pale blue :)

Not sure why you would change anything if you're planning on getting two sizes anyway. Keep doing what you're doing if it's working! And have a blast at the hen night and the wedding. BTW - that dress is adorable. I'm sure you'll look fabulous in it.
