I started out on Sunday at 246.1 and then today got on scale at it read 242.6. Is it possible or even safe to lose 3.5 lbs in just a few days. Should I only weight myself once a week?

I say once a week. There's a ton of people who do everyday, but it makes me batty to see those numbers change or stay the same every day.

I'd say the 3.5lbs you are seeing now is water weight and not to be concerned.

There is no right answer. It's personal preference.

It's water weight. That comes off quickly in the first couple weeks (if you're lucky...I gained my first two weeks), then it slows down.

If you can handle seeing the numbers fluctuate up and down, there's nothing wrong with weighing more than once a week, up to once a day. All that matters is that you're doing it in a consistent setting (i.e. first thing in the morning, after using the bathroom and before eating).

I have been taking water pills, because I do retain water. I do like you said only weighing myself before eating and after using the bathroom so doing that right so far.

Twice a month not sure if I could trust myself to do that

I weigh myself daily. I don't look at the number, though. My weight is downloaded to my tablet and every once in a while I find it interesting to look at the trends.

I started weighing daily because a weekly weigh-in was becoming stressful. I was putting too much emphasis on the number and living the rest of the week in anticipation. Daily helps me put the fluctuations in perspective.

Your weight will change daily - what I find helpful is to track to make sure the "range" is going down (from 151-154 to 147-151, for example).

My weight tends to fluctuate by a few pounds daily so I only weigh in every 1 or 2 weeks. I would also suggest taking pics every month or so to monitor your progress. The little changes that you might not notice on a daily basis are really noticable in pics taken a month or so apart.

I weight most mornings but I only really count it towards weight loss weekly. My weight can fluctuate. If you just started changing your lifestyle you are just losing water weight. When I am retaining water my weight can change by up to 2 lbs temporarily.

It really depends on what you're expecting the number on the scale to tell you. If you're just looking for weight loss progress, I would say once a week at the same time of day. But weighing can tell you other things. Heart patients often have to weigh daily to see if they are retaining water. Some people will weigh before and after exercise to see how much fluid they lost and how much water they need to drink to make up for it.
