Why am I gaining weight for no reason?

I've been in maintenance for several months now, but something's going wrong these past few weeks as the scale's been creeping up on me. I eat 1550-1600 calories on a daily basis and work out 2-3 times a week. I've been doing this while successfully maintaining or losing weight very gradually for nearly a year. I do give myself a cheat day once every 2 weeks, but that's how I've always done it. Just recently, things have changed and I'm putting on weight for no reason. I eat only 1-2 meals a day. Breakfast is 1400 calories and then I just have a 150-200 calorie snack before bed. I'm lifting a little heavier and doing a bit more cardio, but that's it. What gives?

May be you are getting complacent with your calorie counting and should revisit your diary. Your are probably eating more than you think. :)

Could also be a thyroid issue. Talk with your doctor on your next check-up.

That being said, unless you are morbidly obese, weight is about the worse indicator of health there is. These forums are LOADED with posts of women who lift who weigh 10 pounds more than when they were cardio bunnies, but look far thinner.

So how are your clothes and measurements? Are you taking progress pics?

    ^ This.

If you're gaining fat, you're eating over maintenance. It's possible that it's water weight from increasing the intensity of your workouts, more carbs or sodium, etc. Look through your diary and see if there is an increase in those numbers to help determine if the gain is water or fat.

Check your measurements and see if you have gained, lost or maintained in body size.

I measure everything with a digital scale, so I doubt I'm making miscalculations unless the food scale is wrong. Should I lower my calorie intake to 1400-1500 calories a day?

It might be the heavier lifting! Putting on some muscle.

But that's an amateurs speculation...take it with a grain of salt lol. The only thing about weight gain that I actually know is that I eat a lot...therefore I gain a lot.
