Has anyone figured out how much one serving dry equals cooked? Does it depend on the pasta? What do you normally do to calculate it?

If I am cooking pasta for more than one person, I weigh the entire amount of dry pasta before I cook it and weigh the entire amount of cooked pasta after I drain it. Divide the dry pasta weight by the weight per serving to get the number of servings cooked and then divide the cooked weight by the number of servings to get the weight per serving of cooked pasta.

I guess once you do that once you can figure it out for future dinners. I was hoping an easy answer! :-) Thanks!

ya, that sounds complicated. I usually look on MFP for the cooked versions. It's not as accurate, but if it says 1 cup cooked = ##, then I measure out a cup of cooked pasta and just log that. Again, I know it's not as accurate.

Depends on the pasta, but most of the time it doubles in weight as it cooks. However, it's an agricultural product, so it's not going to absorb the exact same amount of water when it cooks every time. It will always be a bit different.

    2.2 is about right.

I don't really worry about it... I always log it dry, though. Nutritionally, it's the same dry as it is cooked unless you've added a bit of oil and/or salt to the water.

Last time a serving cooked ended up at 123g (whole wheat pasta). I just weigh it dry then cooked as well to figure out the amount of servings, it just takes a couple seconds really.

ok thanks. I didn't even think about looking up the cooked version in MFP. I think I did 1.75 cups = 2 servings of pasta so it was like 390 calories. Added some sauteed veggies feta cheese, with spices and it was so good. Thank you!
