Sausage egg bake question

Did you see/try the egg and sausage breakfast bake on the site blog a few days ago? I would like to try it but I want to replace the bread in the recipe with something less carby and glycemic, or a high protein and fiber bread if one exists. Any ideas?

It is hard to replace the bread for the same amount of protein or more without changing texture.
I could not find the recipe, but instead of sausage you could try cooked bacon or ham to save on fat calories. Does the recipe have cheese? If you can cut the cheese by 20 or 25% you might not miss it much, especially if you put half of the cheese on top.
You could add certain vegetables that you like like mushrooms or asparagus or green beans. Green beans would increase the protein.

I didn't see the recipe,but turkey sausage is very good with less calories. Some stores have their own brands.We have used Kroger's .....very good.
Most recipes calories can be lowered by simply using a bit less of the calorie dense ingreds,butter,cheese,starchy vegetables & some grains/ beans. Kind of switch them till you are satisfied with nutrients.
Maybe google a recipe adding low cal & see what you come up with.There are good recipe sites on line. Skinny Taste & All Recipes give the nutrition info for all recipes. On All Recipes,you need to scroll down left side,below the recipe.0 -
