Workout DVDs and heart rate monitors

Hey, everyone!

I have recently discovered a liking for workout DVDs and was wondering if anybody has had huge success with them? Anybody lose most of their weight with them or a significant amount?

I just love them because the trainer keeps me motivated and time flies by. Plus I can do them in my room surrounded by my motivational posters and messages! I just look em up on YouTube and get moving, Now I know some will say "any workout you stick to will be successful" and that is true, but I am curious about others

Also, I am wanting to invest in a HRM since workout DVDs and running outside is hard for me to accurately track. The more accurately I can track calories burned and calories eaten, the better! (I'm not a perfectionist at all...lol) So any suggestions for really good HRM that won't break after a year? That seems to be a big complaint for Polar HRM's. I am looking to stay under $70 as I am a broke college student.

Any and all help is appreciated! Thanks!

I have a Polar and love it. When I was attempting cardio DVD's, I used it and it did well for me. Back at that time, I lost 30lbs... I have different goals now so I don't use it any more :)

Workout DVD's & active games (like EA Sports Active 2.0 & Just dance for Kinect) have pretty much been my main workouts.

I do use a HRM when I workout. Currently I'm using a Garmin HRM with the Garmin VivoFit band. I subtract a % off of the calories the HRM gives me because they can be inaccurate for anything that isn't steady state cardio. Prior to having the Garmin devices (bought early dec), I was using a Pyle Sports HRM ($30) and a Fitbit. The Pyle HRM wasn't the greatest, the watch was bulky and if you don't have it wet enough or position just right you get really weird readings. I got it however, when $30 was all I had to spend on a HRM.

I can't even remember which one I have lol when looking at Polar, I would find a comparison chart of each one and what they can do then match it up to your needs :) but in general, yes Polar is excellent.

I like the "For Dummies" series because I'm new to fitness. They have a beginner level that is really for beginners and adaptations for the more advanced. I'm using Cardio for Dummies and Pilates for Dummies.
