Do you run with your dog?

I'm a runner. Currently training for a half, but normally, I run 3 to 5 miles at a time.

We are getting a new puppy. The kids voted for a small dog so we're getting a mini schnauzer (we've had them before - love them!). Depending on the dog, he might be able to run with me (big might here, given the size). Does anyone run with a smaller dog? How far do you go with them? Obviously, since we're getting a puppy, it would be a long time before I even tried, but, I'm wondering if it's even worth trying with a mini schnauzer (he's expected to be about 15 lbs. at maturity). I don't think speed would be an issue as I'm slow. Typical easy run is a 12 minute pace.

I have a mini schnauzer that I've tried to run with several times! She's a bit smaller for the breed, about 11 lbs, so she can only keep up for so long. She normally maxes out at 2 miles because she exerts so much energy just to keep up.
