New scales have added 6.6lb on!!

I have been using an old set of traditional scales since i started MFP about 3 weeks ago and was convinced that they where not right. If i moved them around the bathroom they gave me different readings and i thought i was lighter than they said.
Well, I have just invested in a nice set of Weighwatchers digital scales that read your BMI and other things and they have added an extra 6.6lb on to me!!!!!.
That means my 5lb weight loss has gone up to 1.6lb gain (psychologically of course) I'm rather gutted by tonight's events!

WAIT A WEEK AND SEE WHAT THE WW SCALE SAYS AFTER A WEEK.

I'm not going to quit. Will just change my starting weight on here to what it would have been if i'd had these scales in the first place.

Check into the WW scales accuracy... I read another post about theirs not being right on.
Did you change your start weight? Did you use that old scale to get your starting weight too? Because if you did then you should add the difference it made to your starting weight as well... Just a thought.0 -
I'm not so sure about digital scales. I had been weighing myself on the wii (which also overestimates!) and decided to get some digital scales. They are terrible!! The reading changes by around 6 pounds depending on whether it is on carpet or tiles and even if I leave them in the same place and get off and stand back on they lose a good few pounds. It is very frustrating. Also remember that it is all relative. You have probably lost that weight.0

Now see if it were me I would use the new weight, add 5 pounds to that and make that amount the new starting weight and still show you lost 5 pounds. Your old scales showed a 5 pound difference so the scale did move Helps the whole mental thing too.
I love my WW scale! Mine only does weight though, the other features sound great!0 -
scotty - I had problems with my scale giving me vastly different readings if I stepped off and on. I finally figured out it was because I was looking down when I was weighing myself and that was throwing things off. Now I get on and look straight ahead, wait a few seconds for the weight to register and get off and look. If I do it that way then I get the exact same reading every time.0

That's weird, my digital, old-style, and Wii all tell me (within 2-3 lbs) the same weight. Maybe I'm lucky?
Also, I've tested the accuracy of my scale by getting on and off again, and I've done it 4x with the exact same weight each and every time.0 -
I have a really nice digital scale I got from AVON lol. It really is all relative. I try to put it in exactly the same spot every time I weigh. I like the idea of adding 5 to what this scale says and using that as you starting weight. You earned that 5 pounds.0

If you have some dumbbells, weigh them on your scale to see if your scale is accurate.0

While it's more satisfying seeing the lbs drop off, it's also good to mark progress by measuring your waist and other parts of your body. Muscle weighs more than fat but takes up less space so if you are gaining muscle you may gain some weight.0

Why don't you weigh yourself with both scales, just to ensure that your old scales are definitely out 5lb out compared to your new scales. I don't know what time you usually weigh in, but sometimes I weigh myself in the morning & if I weigh myself again that evening/night I can be up to 7lbs heavier!
Also, find a flat surface and weigh yourself on that surface every time, at the same time each week. Best time is in the morning after you have been to the toilet, and before you have eaten or had anything to drink. Also, weigh yourself 3 times in a row just to make sure you get the same each time.0
