I personally don't track my water consumption. But if I did, I wouldn't count coffee. It's a diuretic.

It's also the elixir of life and a benison from the very Gods.

Nope! I make mine with more coffee :-p.

Anyway- I count my coffee as "water" since I also count my iced tea.

Studies have shown that the duiretic effect does not exceed the fluid from the coffee.

no, only pure water counts as water in my opinion. and anyway, the 8 glasses a day isn't really necessary.

    She's right. http://www.plosone.org/article/info:doi/10.1371/journal.pone.0084154

Yes, I'd count coffee, if I logged my fluid intake.

I'm stealing this :) I don't log my fluid intake, but if I did I would count it.

You don't need to make any Magic Water Quota.

Just drink when you're thirsty, and keep drinking until you're no longer thirsty.

    Voila! Done. Nothing to track.

well, many foods have water in them too. if you're going to count literally everything that contains water, then count food too. kind of think it defeats the point to count coffee or anything else that's not purely water though, but i don't track water anyway. i try to drink more of it though.

Because it's a diuretic, you will lose some of it again, but overall if you drink a cup, what you lose through urination will be less than a cup, so overall you are hydrating yourself a little. I don't count it personally, but if you want to, you could always count a portion of it, say something like 1/3 of the quantity you've just drunk perhaps ?

Nice! Do you know where they were published? I'd like to throw those numbers in the face of some people who give me crap about how much coffee I drink.

I rarely drink plain water. I drink coffee, Coke Zero, Kool Aid and occasionally some tea. Oh and milk and a protein shake. All you need is to stay hydrated. Period. If you have light colored urine, you are doing it right.

I count my coffee if it's decaf. If your urine is light yellow, you are getting enough liquid.
