Has anyone replaced a breakfast with a homemade healthy smoothie? And does it help towards weight loss??

As long as you are in a calorie deficit then yes.

What does that mean? I try to eat 2000 calories a day - because of breastfeeding xx

It doesn't matter what you eat or drink, as long as your calories are less or equal to your daily goal then you are on the right road :)

I sometimes use a smoothie for part of a meal, but I don't want it for breakfast. I think it is healthy, because it is made of healthy stuff (like fruits, berries, milk, yogurt, cocoa, nut butter). Not sure if I understand your last question? Calorie deficit is what you need for weight loss.

I go through phases where it's my breakfast. As stated earlier: it only helps with weight loss if it helps me create a deficit (i.e. if it helps me eat fewer calories). Breastfeeding is a factor I can't speak to.

fwiw: I have smoothies because I want more nutrients in my diet.

yes that's one of the reasons I have a smoothie because all of those nutrients go into my breast milk. I blend spinach, strawberrys, blueberrys, cinnamon, honey, milk, and sometimes add avocado or banana to thicken. REALLY tasty and filling.

If you're looking for a great tasting smoothie that incorporates both fruits and vegetables, here's one that I eat (or drink..):

    1/2 cup pineapple
    1/2 cup grapes
    2 cups spinach
    1/2 cup chopped carrots
    1 whole orange
    1/2 banana
    1-2 cups ice

This makes 2 servings. It's probably around 130 calories a serving, and it's all nutrition. Just fruits & veggies

I drink smoothies every day. You can put whatever you have in them. Instead of milk you can put raw nuts into your smoothie. When you blend a nut with water it makes a milk that is high in protein. Some of my favorite combinations are strawberry banana blueberry walnut or almond. Or banana pecan mango and strawberry. For veggie smoothies I usually do carrot, pepper, spinach, cucumber and a few berries but no nuts in the veggie ones. I put a fresh wedge of lime or lemon and a sprinkle of sea salt on the top. It's like a veggie cocktail!

I drink this almost every day for breakfast:

    1scoop Combat Protein powder (25 g protein)
    75 g frozen blueberries
    1/4 - 1/2 c Greek yogurt (plain, Costco)
    2 t Benefiber powder
Sometimes I add 1 T coconut oil but that's an exra 130 cals so not always
    1/2 c water
I blend for about 30 sec in magic bullet

    Enjoy!

I drink a fortified smoothie that keeps me full. Whey isolate, frozen blueberries, almond milk, coconut oil. I read an article Univ of Israel did a study of whey isolate. Whey drinkers had up to 58% reduction in hunger in one study. They keep me full from 7am until at least 12pm.

wow that is almost exactly what I drink. I do not always add yogurt. I think the oil keeps me full.

It will help with weight loss if it helps you maintain a deficit. I do smoothies if I'm strapped for time. Usually they are high calorie or I have to include other food items into my breakfast.

Protein powder, peanut butter, fruit, greek yogurt, green leafy veggies if I have them on hand, water if needed or milk. These are all things I'll add. I hadn't thought of trying coconut oil (which would taste good) as mentioned above, but seems like a good addition to raise the fat intake (I prefer higher fat breakfasts).

I like having smoothies at lunch (1/2 cup each plain yogurt, blueberries, soy milk with big handful kale or spinach and a scoop of protein powder), but for some reason when I have it for breakfast I never feel as full and am hungrier earlier that I should be for lunch. Don't know if it's all psychological or if I'm just burning through all that sugar too fast.
I like a protein pancake or omelet better for breakfast now.
