Calories in VS Calories out

I am currently starting my weight loss journey and so far it has been going pretty well. I figured to keep it simple at first I would start with the simple calories in VS calories out but with what I have learned over several years of passing interest in nutrition and dieting it seems that unless you have other health interests that its really fundamentally all you need when paired with exercise and reasonable limitations. My question is has anyone else had success with this simple formula or has it always come down to measuring macros or more complex diets?

To lose weight, all you have to do is eat at a deficit. Macro's are for health.

What I did was focus on my calories for a while - so I could get used to logging/weighing/measuring - then I started focusing on macro's.

I've lost 65 pounds in 8 months so far.

It's all up to you, though :)

I know that IIFYM (If It Fits Your Macros) is a thing. Its interesting as well but I the more strict a diet the harder it is for me to stick with.
