Carbo Loading

I am running a Tough Mudder on Sunday and I plan on running a half-marathon later this year. I've been doing some research on carbo loading. One website (Runners world) said I should eat 500-600 grams of carbs per day for the 3 days prior to the event. That seems like a lot. I only ate 350 grams yesterday and it felt like I ate a lot. I plan on eating a whole pizza tonight by myself LOL! Maybe a bottle of gatorade too.
Is anyone here experienced with it? I would appreciate your advice and suggestions.
