How long do you wait before training a particular muscle? Ex: lift and train arms on monday, when would you repeat? Wednesday, Thursday?

Usually I would give that specific group of muscles 3 days to recover. However, this more of a "guideline". Muscle size comes into play as the smaller the muscle is, the quicker it recovers from being worked and the opposite applies to larger muscles.

On top of that, you also need to take into account how intense your lifting is. Beginners usually lift relatively light weight where as advanced gym goers usually lift more and the intensity of their workouts are greater - so...more rest is needed.

So as a "guideline" 3-4 days of rest should be enough.

If you are a newbie to weight training then just follow a program. Rest for muscle groups is going to depend on intensity and volume. Newbie lifters can get by with minimal downtime (which is why you squat heavy 3x a week on stronglifts). Advanced lifters might only squat once a week or once every other week (truly elite lifters) due to the crazy amount of weight used and the massive recovery needed. Don't try to overanalyze it yourself, just pick a proven program and do it.

i am currently waiting 2 days between (such as lifting on tuesday, then again friday) but wanted to make sure that was ample rest/heal time. i lift free-weights, and lift heavy (for me, not compared to a large man) thanks for the info.
