I just came across this and found it really interesting so thought I would share:

So either people who weigh more often lose more weight or people who lose more weight weigh themselves more often.

The cause-and-effect really isn't clear, here. But I find that daily weigh-ins work well for me, paradoxically because they minimize the importance of each weigh-in, helping me treat fluctuations and plateaus with more perspective. If I were to wait until the end of the week or month, I'd probably build up more expectations around the number and attach more importance to it, and be more likely to get discouraged if I didn't get the big loss I was anticipating.

I'm a data geek, though. I like numbers. Also, daily weigh-ins help make weight loss part of my habit, like brushing my teeth or taking a shower. It's just something I do.

I suspect that people who check their bank balance daily or who log their purchases daily probably do a better job of managing their budgets than people who wait until month's-end to balance their chequebooks.
