I like them I like the white cheddar ones and I'll make it lunch by getting two, adding deli meat and cheese to each, and smearing mayo/ stone ground mustard on them. Or I'll get the caramel ones, smear pb/nutella on them and add half a chopped banana for a snack.0

I use them to make gluten free open face sandwiches since regular GF bread is WAY higher in calories. Works pretty well0

I love cauliflower and string beans, but can't stand rice cakes. (Also love popcorn.)

I grew up in the '80s, so they do have a "diet food" association to me, but that's not why I don't care for them. Just personal tastes (I hate cereal too and always think it's odd that people have trouble not overeating it). I think I got exposed to cottage cheese as diet food (again, '80s), and I love it.0 -
I love rice cakes!!! The texture is what I enjoy. Korean brown rice cakes are off the hinges yommy.

Ha. I eat rice cakes sometimes, but I kind of use them as crackers of sorts. I don't eat gluten, so rice cakes or rice crackers work for me. I might pack a couple to take to work, and then eat them with a bit of peanut butter or cheese or something as a snack. I don't eat them because I think they will make me lose weight. I eat them because they fit in with my lifestyle. And I don't mind them. I do remember, though, in the 80's when they were so popular with dieters (i.e. my mom). Anything low calorie was all the rage.0

One time I tried to make a pb2+ sugar free jelly sandwich on something likened to a rice cake:
By time it was lunch time, it was soggy, inedible, and smelled like vomit. It was a low point in my life
It made me wish I had real rice cakes, I would've eaten anything BUT that at that point

thank you to those who also remember the association of rice cakes and "diets"- I still picture the spandex-clad aerobics going person eating a rice cake as if the rice cake was what made one thin.
I just discovered something called "deli pop" - O. M. G. it's got some wheat in it so won't work for those needing to avoid gluten but is otherwise brown rice and barley. A bit thinner/more crunchy/more bite than a "standard" fluffy american rice cake. AMAZING with some preserves or cookie butter (or both!) on top, but really quite yummy all by itself.
Absolutely! I am not such a huge PB fan but I do love a rice cake with some cottage cheese on top. Good idea to try it with some different types of cheeses too!
I think rice cakes are "calorie laden" just cause they are relatively calorie dense compared to some other foods (like celery). They are a fine food choice I just felt when I first remember them being marketed it was like "eat this and be skinny"and for that particular purpose they are calorie dense, relative to other things one could eat. If you are going to eat something just to "be skinny" and not simply because you can enjoy it there are much better options than rice cakes. I'd suggest ice LOL.
I'm glad to hear though that my perception of rice cakes is just dated because I am apparently super old and that they are no longer seen as some magical food that causes weight loss.
I have absolutely no problem with the rice cake, I just was remembering people choking them down who didn't find them yummy because they were on a "diet" and that's just sad (and misguided!)

I enjoy ONE plain rice cake spread with a tsp of almond butter. Eating too much of anything is not going to be good for weight loss. A whole package in a sitting? That's the problem right there.0

I like them! However, do I or did I ever think eating them would make me lose weight? No. However, at one point I did think they were "healthy", which I think would be disputed by most members here haha.
My mom did buy them on one of her health kicks, saying they were supposed to help you lose weight, so maybe it's a generational thing?0 -
I like them, and haven't had them in AGES. Think they're going on the shopping list now. Along with Laughing Cow Cheese. One wedge + 2 plain/salted rice cakes= yumm-O snack for about 110 calories. Lower cal and more filling than the granola bar I would probably eat in the morning otherwise.0

Now don't get me wrong, I LOVE rice cakes (am halfway through a package just now myself, may eat the rest of the package yet) but they aren't exactly healthy.
Maybe I just answered my own question in realizing if you are going to eat an entire package of something rice cakes is better than a jumbo bag of chips. But really, we should be getting past the "I MUST EAT THE ENTIRE BAG" mentality I would think.
I still think the people who tried to make rice cakes indoctrinated as a "diet" food are evil.
You need to get past this idea of healthy and unhealthy foods. They are not unhealthy or healthy, and anyone attempting to push them into a specific category is merely highlighting their own food phobia rather than displaying any great knowledge on nutrition. Rice cakes are perfectly fine, and Kallo's Belgian dark chocolate thins are sublime.

i like rice cakes! the lightly salted omes are good. i like their texture too. they are very low in calories and they can satisfy a salty or sweet tooth. also, you can put peanut butter or nutella on them for a treat without ruining your calories for the day.0

I used to like the flavored ones. I've moved past rice cakes though. But I am going to try some corn thins for next month's snacks.0
