Macros (or macronutrients: protein, carb, fat) are the 3 types of biomolecules that your body derives energy from. Eating these at specific ratios can help to optimize weight loss. Carbs are your body's preferred energy source. Fats are for energy too, but they also can be converted into some hormones in your body. Protein can be used for energy, but it's inefficient, hence why higher protein diets can help with weight loss. Protein is also used for muscle metabolism.
Hope this helps, and always macro0 -
It may help to prioritize in accordance with your current goals
For example, when I was losing weight I looked at my total calories intake first then I look at my macros - especially if I'm over in calories I can see where I am over in then make adjustments. ie. over in carbs look for the culprit & try to find healthier version
Now that I'm maintaining I look at macros first then worry about the total calories. I portion my macros in descending order: protein, fats, & carbs.
