Question for runners: cost of a half marathon

I'm thinking of running my first half marathon this summer. The "early bird" special puts the cost at $65 and includes food, finishers medal, and the obligatory t shirt. Plus I get to finish my run in our local university's football stadium, which would be exciting for me.

Price-wise, is this a good deal? How much have your half marathon and marathons been? My hours have been cut at work and so I want to make an informed decision before signing up.

Race fees can depend a lot on where you are but from my perspective that is a good price. I volunteer on a race committee that offers a half marathon distance and we keep our prices as low as possible (and are one of the lowest around), offer the same things and it would be around the same price.
Even the local small half, i.e. no chip timing, etc. is pretty close in price.

Thanks for your input. They always seem to do a nice job and it is a large event community wise. I heard some of the fee goes to a local children's hospital too, so I'm glad to hear it's a fair price.
  • Sounds like a decent price to me. I usually pay $75-$100 depending on what the swag is.

I paid $85 for my first half which gave basically the same, but it was not the early bird price.

I just paid an early bird price of $45 for a half, but I've also paid that price for a 5K in the past. I'd say you paid a fair price for your race, and it sounds like a fun event!

    Good price.

I never worry about entry frees. More about how much it costs to actually be a runner... shoes, water belts, etc... shoes alone that fit my weird feet are 180!

Sounds reasonable. Most of the time the really big ones are well over $100.
