    Stay awake.

But seriously, I have an App with sounds; I usually mix distant thunder w/ rain or wind and set a timer for 30 min. I swear I'm never awake when that 30 minutes is up.

Watch something or read something. That will usually make my brain STFU, which is typically the reason I cant sleep. If its really bad I'll also include just enough booze to get only slightly buzzed.

When I can't sleep, it's usually due to mania, so I can't say much there. I usually just use the computer until I fall asleep in front of it with it on my lap with Netflix on. Sometimes I don't really get quality sleep in the bed, so sometimes like if I have to use the restroom I will fall asleep on the can(hey it works, it's not just the place for great thinking anymore!), or sometimes I will be sitting here on my couch about to go to bed, and I will just fall asleep. It's then those times, it's like autopilot sleep for me. Another good example of autopilot sleep, is when I am sitting on the edge of my bed and I am about to either lay down from drinking water or am about to drink some water before laying down. I will sit there and soon enough I will be out like a light. I think I inherited the autopilot sleep from my grandmother. She used to always do that.

Mostly though if I can't sleep, it's for no reason, so using the computer or seeing if any of my friends are still awake work. Sometimes I just sit up and on the edge of my bed and drink some water and rub my eyes and pick all the sleep and loose eyelashes out of the way and then lay back down. Usually about that time I am so tired I just crash. Reading doesn't tire me out. I have actually fallen asleep though, with a book in my hand. Of course about 30 minutes into sleep the book hits the floor and it'll wake me up because I "felt" the book drop out of my hand. Or one time it fell on my face. That was epic. Most of the time when I am uber tired and am waiting for a reply back from my friends when I am texting I will sit there holding my phone, and soon enough I will be asleep and then about an hour later I wake with a start when I "hear" a thud, and I then see that my phone fell out of my hands.

Usually for me sleep is a breeze. But other times if I can't sleep, I will just come online. Or watch telly. Or Netflix. Usually about 10 minutes into getting settled into a sitting/laying down position, and putting my favourite show on, I am gone. No use trying to wake me up either.

Wander backwards and forwards between my couch (with the telly on) and my bed (with the radio on) and try not to look at the clock. At some point my body just gives up and I fall asleep wherever I happen to be.

This gets my vote for healthiest answer. Fake it till you make it, and leave all glowing devices in another room!
