Getting confused and frustrated

When my mum was ill I slowly put on weight then piled on another stone and a half when she passed away due to binge eating and stopping exercise, so the day after Christmas I started my diet. I lost about 7lbs in 10 days, every day the scale was going down.
Since then it has been all over the place. Start weight 218lbs 45inch waist (I know, it's bad) 27th Dec 14.

Wednesday 7th Jan I weighed 211.6lbs kept between 1500 and 1300 calories until Monday and about 50g fat.

Monday I weighted 210.8lbs as didn't exercise since the Tuesday before due to injury.
20 minutes exercise bike, squats, lunges, crunches, jumping jacks.
1400 calories 143grams carbs and 60grams fat

Tuesday I did 3 hours mucking out stables, filling around 15 12lb haynets then I rode 2 horses
for a total of about an hour.
1575 calories 177grams carbs and 59 grams fat

Wednesday I weighed 209.8lbs despite fluid build up on my muscles as my abs hurt badly.
Went for a brisk walk for about 30 minutes
1291 calories 175grams carbs 34 grams fat

Thursday 15th I weigh 211.6lbs!!!!! Measured my waist at 42inches but not losing
but hips have only lost 1inch since I started

What am I doing wrong?

I weigh all my food, plan my meals so I stay within all my targets (calories, fat, carbs and protein) I have a night off once a week if I feel like it but still count the calories and try not to go too over my calories because if I don't take a night off I start struggling with my will power.

I ride at least twice a week but do around 8 hours mucking out, on days I don't ride I make sure I go for a walk, cycle and some squats or stretches.

Weight loss is not linear - we all have ups and downs. Within one week of weighing daily, I will go up 3 lb, down 5, up 2, stay the same, up 6, down 3, etc. What you eat, how you exercise, etc, will all influence the scale. The fact that you have lost inches means that you are doing good things - 1 inch off your hips is a good start. I lose off my waist last as it's the place on my body (one of a few) that holds onto the fat longer. You are doing fine.

Keep weighing things that are solid or measuring those that are liquid. Be honest in what you eat. And don't be too hard on yourself!

First of all I'm very sorry for your loss.

What time of day are you weighing yourself? I see my wait fluctuate between 1-2 lbs throughout the day due. I think this is down to fluid retention (I've started drinking a lot more water recently)

I weighed myself at the end of yesterday evening after I had been fed and watered and I was 210lbs and this morning I weighed myself again (same scales) to see that my weight had dropped to 208.

I get up, go for a wee then weigh myself before breakfast. My abs etc still ache a little today so could still have some fluid there.

It's seems my scales will fluctuate as the inches for from my waist.

I'm glad it's not just me, I should probably try to weigh just once a week at the same time but it is so tempting.

I do lose off my waist first as riding makes use of the muscles round that area I think. I am just angry that I let myself put the weight on in the first place so am hard on myself.

You will tend to see fluctuations when you weigh daily. It is less all over the place when you weigh weekly. Other than that, it just takes time and sticking to a reduced calorie diet.

So I don't want to open the weigh or not to weigh debate. Everyone has their own opinion on what works for them. I personally, do not weigh myself but every 2-3 months because the weight fluctuations freak me out. I am great with the weight loss but when the scale shows a gain and I know I have been doing everything correctly, it just ruins me day. I use my clothes as a gauge of how I am doing. As long as they are feeling loose I'm good. Don't let the stupid scale get you down. 1 inch off your hips shows that it is working. Good job!!!

Where are you at in your monthly cycle? That can play a role in weight gain as well.

i have always seen it as there are 2 categories of people... those who can weigh every day and not care about fluctuations (this is where I am at because I do it for tracking data only) and those who can't weigh themselves often at all because they will freak at any little thing...

If you can't handle weighing every day then don't... it is very much a mind set that you won't care what the scale reads when you do it daily... :)

I have no idea as I'm on the depo injection. I am just putting down to normal fluctuations as I'm now aware it's not just me but my measurements are going in the right direction.
