Protein bars

So I really want to eat a protein bar for breakfast, but I'm not sure which are actually worth buying. I have the Atkins and south beach ones and I love them, but I'm not sure that is all I need. I just wanted to ask advice. I am trying to lose weight, not bulk up, but I feel like since I normally am not hungry in the morning, a protein bar would be a great substitute. Thanks!!

Protein bars don't make you "bulk up", a caloric surplus will. If you like the ones you currently eat, then continue - not sure what you mean when you ask if its all you need? For me, I personally like Quest bars.

On another note, if you aren't hungry in the morning, there is no need to force yourself to eat something.

Thank you very much for your reply. I just wasn't sure if those had enough of protein that I needed to stay full. I just wanted different opinions, But I will definitely look into the quest bars

Quest Bars are pretty much the gold standard. 7-11 even sells them now.

Pure protein is alright. Not as good as Quest and the selection is limited, but they're cheaper and you can find them everywhere.

Premier Protein is probably the most protein dense and readily available bar I can find, but only go there if you don't mind eating cardboard.

Mostly you're gonna want to go with Quest if you can. Look at the label and do a quick comparison to calories vs. protein vs. fiber and make up your own mind. Don't be afraid to try something different.

Maybe you've seen different Atkins bars than I have, but the one's I've seen are pretty much a FAT bar. Like 25 grams of fat or something ridiculous with maybe 3-6 grams of protein. No thanks.

I don't find fat to be satiating in the least. Protein and fiber do it for me, though. Quest bars have really great macros.

I'm not sure which ones you're seeing but the Atkins meal bars I eat nearly every morning are 15-16 grams of protein and about 10 grams of fat.

OP, whether or not an Atkins bar has enough protein to keep you full is something you can simply judge for yourself. Have one tomorrow morning and see. I know it is enough for me to last until around 11:30 for lunch.

If you're not really hungry in the morning there's no real need for you to eat in the morning. Some mornings I don't because I'm not hungry and some I wait until later so I'll have more calories for a big dinner out.

If you can get your protein from whole food sources, a protein bar isn't necessary. And while protein and fats can be more satiating, it isn't necessarily true for everyone. I find that if I don't eat, I'm not hungry. Once I start eating, regardless of the meal, I could eat for days lol.

I'm a fan of the Pure Protein and Clif Builder bars. The price works for me because I can buy them in variety packs at Costco. I like the Quest bars but even at $2 a bar that's a little high for me and some of the flavors aren't that good IMO. I have started making my own Quest like bars using Vitafiber. Kind of fun coming up with your own creations.

I love the Quest bars!! My nutritionis HIGHLY RECOMMENDS them, and they are great for my high protein, low carb eating plan. They have 20 grams of protein, and net carbs of around 3. I usually buy them by the box, and retailmenot.com usually has a coupon for them for GNC or the Vitamin Shoppe. I will by individual bars if I want to try a new flavor. My favorite flavors are cookies and cream, vanilla almond crunch, strawberry cheese cake, and white chocolate raspberry. The cinnabon flavor is also good too.

I'm a Quest bar fan. I heat them in the microwave for about 15 seconds and they are delicious.

Pure Protein from Target. Less than a buck a piece and their macros are near Quest bars. They just don't have the fiber.

I can't get past the taste of Quest so those are out for me.

Never liked Quest bars and chocolate stout together either...

I'm another fan of the Quest protein bars. I eat one before every weightlifting session at the gym.

I usually buy the pure protein deluxe chocolate at Walmart for around $5/5bars. The quest bars are really good (double chocolate chunk and cinnamon roll) but cost $25 for a box of 12.

For my mornings that are rushed I like the Luna bars. These are made from the same company as Cliff bars. They are NOT a protein be (in my opinion) but for under 200cals, they make a great option to get me through til I have time to eat.
