A little background about me. I'm 5'7" and currently weigh 165. I achieved my lowest weight of 140 by eating very low calorie and strictly cardio. I became skinny fat, but at the time I was okay with it. After getting married I find myself up 25 lbs and am not sure what routine I should start with! I'm really wanting to start lifting, but I'm nervous about the nutritional aspect seeing as how I gain so easily. I am currently considering p90x3, a strength/cardio hybrid program, or 5x5s.

Any suggestions would be great! Thanks in advance!

Depends on your psychology. Going strictly strength (aka, Stronglifts or Starting Strength) might discourage you, since the newbie muscle weight comes on pretty quickly for the first couple of months. I'd probably recommend going with one of the mixed programs (along with calorie deficit, of course), and segue into more of a strength program when you feel better about your weight.

Whatever you do, don't go low calorie that is not sustainable. Just eat what MFP has set you up for and lift heavy and a little cardio. This is not a race, this is your new lifestyle :)

I would do a mix of things. Cardio melts fat so you can see your new muscles. And don't eat under your calories. If you are doing strength training make sure you eat enough protein and drink a lot of water to repair your muscles and fuel your body.

If you're looking for a mix of cardio & strength training, check out the Spartacus workout DVDs through Women's Health.

My wife & I have been following the program for almost a year & we love it.

I have been doing Focus T25 and am seeing amazing results. Workouts are tough but fun. Highly suggesting giving them a look. The alpha phase is a lot of cardio and the beta phase is abs with weight training. Gamma looks like beta but tougher.

I would say 5x5 3 days/week and do cardio 2-3 days that you are not lifting
