Unhelpful Parents

So, long story short, I was on zoloft for a few months, and it caused me to go from about 115 up to 140-148 (I'm 5'1, for reference). I've been doing my best to work out so I can start to get some of the weight off, especially now that I'm done with school and have time. I've ran/walked/etc. about 20 miles this week, so I think I'm doing pretty good. However, the way my parents are acting makes it seem like they would rather me be unhealthy about the way I'm losing weight. I didn't eat for a few days, and they commented on how good I looked since I lost about 6 pounds, even though they knew that I wasn't really eating. Also, comments like, "If you keep doing what you're doing, you'll be at your goal weight in no time!" I have to sneak around the house if I want a snack, and everything I eat is critiqued. I'm 22 years old, just graduated college, and they're treating me like a 10 year-old who is 200 pounds overweight, instead of the 25 or so pounds that I would like to lose. It's just very discouraging when they see me as so overweight that they need to monitor my eating habits the way they've been doing.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Parents can be so harsh! They need to realize that the way that they want you to lose weight is extremely dangerous... Have you tried talking to them about it?0

I have. They tend to take discussions like that really personally, or think that I'm taking things too personally, rather than just understanding that how they've been acting has been rather unhelpful. I was planning on, if I can find a counselor this summer, to possibly have them come talk to the counselor with me so there's a third party there to keep the peace. I've been struggling with being happy with my body since I was 13, a lot of which has to do with comments that my mother has made.0

I think the counselor thing is a great idea. Hopefully they will go along with you and things can get sorted out. I'm sure they put a lot of pressure on you, but please don't go without eating. That is so dangerous! You need at least 1200 calories a day. Your body needs those nutrients to survive and function properly.0
