Advice for starting lifting

Hi,
I've been toying with the idea of starting lifting and would appreciate some advice.
I'm 5'3 and only 102lbs which puts me in the underweight category, but I'm not happy with the distribution of fat on my body, so have been eating at a deficit to try and sort it out (my top half is very slim, all my weight is on the thigh/bum area).
All the threads and advice on here seem to indicate I should stop eating at a deficit, cut back on the cardio and start lifting. I've been doing some pump classes but don't really know how to go about starting 'lifting'.
I am a gym member but have never ventured into the weights area, I also do DVDs etc but can't afford to spend too much on DVDs/equipment. I moved house last week and we're spending a lot of our free time doing it up, so I can only realistically do about 3-4 workout sessions per week max.
Any advice on what I should do to get started? I've read some really good tip websites but none actually show me how to do the various exercises (I'm a total beginner) or indicate what weights I should be using etc!
Thanks all in advance

If you can handle a bit of somewhat strong language, this thread answers all your questions and provides many useful links to other sites:

Initially, there has got to be some machines in your gym that you can use. there has got to be some staff/trainer to show you how to use them. Maybe get some experience with that before moving into the weight stack area.0

If you have no experience whatsoever I would find a PT to take you through the equipment first before you start lifting. Ask around at your gym for personal recommendations first as I know we have several at our gym and theres only 2 I would use personally.0
