I am vegan and I need to be
putting more protein in my diet for my work outs! I eat a lot of chick peas, tofu, green veggies and I also have hemp protein powder to put into my drink! Can anyone suggest where else I can get more protein from ??

peas, quinoa, seitan, nondairy milk, nuts, seeds, some nut butters (issue with seeds, nuts, and beans, is that they tend to be high in calories and itty bitty in portion size...)

From the options I've seen while browsing supermarkets etc, you need to eat a *lot* of these foods to consume a decent level of protein. (Both serving size and variety). You say you already have a shake made from hemp, and tbh I reckon that's your best option - a lot of places are starting to do vegan shakes, and although they aren't ever going to match those with whey/egg/casein, they'll help.

    Good luck.

Can you do dairy? Perhaps consider Greek yogurt which averages 12 gr per container. String cheese. Lentils and quinoa are also high in protein. Beans and brown rice. Vegetarian chili is one of my favs! Almond butter, mmmm I also love quest bars at 20 gr of protein. I hope this helps!

Quinoa is one of the few vegan friendly foods that contains complete protein (aka all the amino acids our bodies need are in one food.)

For quick help Hemp hearts/seeds can go on and in anything and taste delicious. My post-workout saviour is banana dipped in hemp hearts.

You might want to try finding a vegan protein supplement that's a blend of pea, rice, and hemp or such (cause none of them are complete proteins on their own)

If you bake at all use some of your protein powder to replace whatever flour your using in your recipe and you can sneak some extra protein in that way too.

Good luck. Protein can be super hard and expensive for vegans...
Maybe check out Vega creator Brendan Braziers recipes (he's a vegan iron man triathlete) there are some good ones. His recommendations helped save me when I started doing regular high intensity workouts that I wanted to survive.

if you cut out foods high in carbs and low in protein like bread, rice, quinoa, and you can fit in nuts, beans, peas, veggie burgers, broccoli, spinach, swiss chard.

Pea protein powder! I get it from NOW foods and it's awesome. I put it into my morning smoothie, add a little to oatmeal and baked goods, etc. Rise protein bars are good and come in two vegan flavors. Also Vega protein and greens shake is useful to have on hand when I get to the end of a day and find I haven't gotten enough.
  • Green leafy vegetables, nuts, tofu and chickpeas are all great. I try to always keep high protein food on me for after my workouts! Also as a little side note, 'Rawfusion' has some really yummy protein powders, swear by the peanut chocolate fudge one.
