Lady problem...... Anyone else?

Okay, ladies.

Today was my sixth day on MFP and I feel great, however, I began spotting today. Started off light, then pretty heavy. Is this cause for alarm? Or normal?

For what it's worth, I was probably eating anywhere between 2,000-3,000+ calories per day with lots of junk before I started and now I'm set to 1390. I weighed 159 at the beginning and I already dropped to 155.

    Congrats, you're becoming a woman!

    No but really, 6 days is not long enough for you to experience hormonal fluctuations from any new change. I don't know why your period has decided to surprise you, but a new way of eating ain't it.

    Why not? I got myself up to 155lbs (my starting weight) doing probably the same. I mean, I don't have an accurate idea since I didn't log, obviously, but I get the sense that's probably around what I was eating.

    If you eat only a little bit above maintenance, it can be easy to put on 10-15lbs a year without noticing.

    No, it's not normal start bleeding when you go on a diet. If you are having abnormal cycles, consult a GYN.

    I have this same issue but after doing a little Googling (I know, horrible!) I think mine may relate more to my new running regime. I am running more than I ever have (training for a half marathon) and I find the spotting is worse on days that I run. It is really annoying!

    I ask because the last time I went on a diet a couple years ago I had spotting in the first week, too. Then and now are the only times I've experienced this in my life! Some of my friends have it a lot but I never do.

    I would contact your OBGYN and let him/her know what's going on.

    Well, I used to be in the 140s all through high school eating like that, just lucky I guess. You should see my sister she eats worse and weighs less! But it really caught up to me recently and I gained all the way to 159 and that's when I decided to nip it in the bud. I know when I get older it will be harder to do. Same kinda thing happened with my teeth actually when I got into my twenties, cavities like crazy even though my diet and oral care didn't change.

    Oohh, thanks! I started running again after a good amount of time off. Only a little, but still, maybe that's it.
    I would contact your OBGYN and let him/her know what's going on.

    Definitely going to on Monday. Figured I'd check here while I waited - everyone here is so helpful!

    I weigh in at 144, currently eating 2500 calories per day and finding it hard to gain. Heavy lifting, that's how!!

    I had spotting sometimes when I was around your age. Actually, maybe a little older. Freaked me out at first, but it wound up being nothing. It also was set off by running or doing cardio a lot of the time.

    Quite easily for many people.

    I am about that weight, do no cardio, have a desk job, and 47 (older = slower metabolism usually) and maintain on about 2,500 calories.

    I don't know how much I ate when I was at my highest weight of 140 since i didn't track it, but that range sounds about right to me, especially if you tack on an additional 19 pounds. i probably would have kept gaining though if i didn't stop. she's 22. that range could be to maintain if you average the two out to be 2500.

    Get your spotting checked out by a doc. :) It could be anything.

    I think it could be due to the exercising. I have to wear a panty liner now that my running is more intense.

    Any change in your normal activities puts stress on the body. Stress can cause your period to arrive early or even show up late. Dropping from 3000+ to 1390 calories per day is big change. Not the calories themselves but perhaps your mental stress of such a big change. Also, changes in physical activities can do this as well. Your body is adjusting to its new routine but decided to file a formal complaint before it adjusted. If your bleeding continues longer than 7 days I advise you see your GP or GYN.
