I joined this site in hopes of tapping into some motivation and wisdom. I have hit 161 pounds, which is about 37 more than I would like to be. I gained 30 pounds recently after my second kidney transplant. I have so many excuses for not exercising. My diet is healthy so the eating part is not really an issue for me, but I just do not like moving more than is necessary. I teach fifth grade and have a 14 year old daughter, so I am active, but I do not have a set exercise program. I have started a million times but I always fall off after a while. I am hoping to find a community of like-minded individuals who can share their experience, strength and hope as we all move forward on a journey towards better health.

Second kidney transplant? Wow. Not knowing anything about any limitations on transplantation, are there any limits as to what your doctors have said you can and can't do? I've had 2 hips and a knee replaced and can't run (or my orthopaedic surgeon will kill me), but I don't know if there are any limitations due to kidney transplants.

Take it slowly. Don't try to do it all at once. We didn't gain the weight in one day, we won't lose it all at once either. You may think you are eating cleanly. You may be. But logging it here on MFP is a good idea to actually see what you are eating. You can be eating good clean calories but still too many of them. Logging them will help you see that. Start exercising, slowly at first. Take a walk with your daughter to talk.

But assuming you have medical clearance, start slowly, don't get discouraged by the setbacks, rejoice in the small victories. And do it one day at a time, one step at a time. You can do it. Obviously you have been through a lot. I'm betting you've got a lot of inner strength you can tap into. Draw on it. And you can do it.
