Will adding light weights to aerobics burn more calories?

I do a lot of kickboxing/aerobics workout dvds. Some of them say you can hold 3 pound weights while doing them to burn more calories. Is this the truth?? Will adding weights to my cardio help burn more?

Yes, assuming everything else remains the same.0

A negligible amount. Maybe 5% higher? If you slow your pace holding weights, then less.

Yes if the intensity is the same. If it's less then not really.
Not trying to split hairs, but if the intensity remains the same with the addition of hand weights, doesn't the overall burn remain the same? Weights would have to increase intensity for the calorie burn to increase, no?0 -

Yep, you got it.
I think the other poster was perhaps thinking "intensity of result".0 -

Semantics--I think people mean that "workload" remains the same (admittedly difficult to quantify in an exercise class or video). The hand weights add to the workload and increase intensity.
