First, stop focusing on your age. I am about to turn 41. I ASSURE you that turning 40 is not the end of the world.
The fact is, I don't feel any older and my lifestyle hasn't changed. Heck, since I turned 37 my life has been turned upside down by a number of things including a divorce. Trust me, the body will still be willing if the mind is. So remember why you are here - yourself, your family, and as your profile says your skinny clothes!

do you see a counselor or psychotherapist? during more challenging times in my life i have found them very helpful. many employers and healthplans cover them, and initial visits are often free through employee assistance programs. if you are feeling that sad i would give it a shot.0

hope things look up for you! I would talk to your dr if that feeling of sadness is lasting longer than two weeks and if your overall outlook is that you aren't looking forward to much.. you may need a little something to help you get thru a hump, and there is nothing wrong with that. Otherwise, I find eating better and exercising to be really good 'dr's orders' when i get in a slump. Its so easy to life get us down but i've decided I have to work thru it. I am a huge comfort eater and dsilike sweating so its so hard to keep pushing thru a bad day. I am starting to get addicted to that after exercise high though!0

from my experience I have learned that You are the only person that can make You happy. Yes, some circumstances and situations do make us sad. However, it is ultimately OUR decision as to how we react and how long we react. There are some mornings where I wake up and I just want to cry (hormonal reasons) But, I just breathe and ask myself 'How do I want to feel today?' and I go over all options and the consequences to each one... and pick one... 9 times out of 10, I choose to be happy. Because I am the only person that can make me happy....
I am aware that this is easier said than done... I have been through a few tragedies in my life and it has taken me a while to learn how to do this... However, I know it makes my life better just by making the attempt... I wish the same for you. I am always here if you need someone to talk to.

Wow! This post just jumped out at me, I had to respond, With the passing of my Mom about a year ago, I went thru the worst time in my life, I was in and out of ICU every few weeks, It was not just the passing of Mom, It was the way the entire situation was being handled involving my siblings, to make a long story short, I wanted to help Mom to the very end, they didn't. I was extremely bitter towards them and it was getting my health and I also gained weight partly from depression, The greatest turnaround for me was a sermon I heard at church, It's about Forgiveness, It doesn't' matter how wrong they were, or how badly they acted, Forgive Them, Forgiveness is Not for them, It's for You! When I realized that things in this world are not always' fair and just, that I needed to be an over comer and move on, only then did I start to heal. ~ Rose0

It's ok to feel blue sometimes, but not when it starts to take over your life.
I've been blue, down, depressed for most of my life and I don't recommend letting it take hold of your life. I've lost so many years just laying around being depressed.
Take action now! You are doing the right thing by getting on here and talking with other people. Sometimes strangers can give more positive advise then your own family. So keep talking, talk talk talk, with anyone and everyone!
Second you are on the right sight to change your life.
Change the way you eat! Trust me this WILL make you FEEL BETTER! Drop the soda's, skip the starches, and lower your sugar intake. Start taking vitamins and a fish oil. And most importantly...GET MOVING!!!
You will feel better, but it will be up to you to stop letting those bad thoughts take over your mind. Everytime you have a bad thought picture a huge red stop sign and keep thinking about that stop sign until your bad thoughts stop. Try like heck to change the way those thoughts come into your head! Picture your favorite movie, or favorite vacation spot, anything to change those bad thoughts to good thoughts.
Here are two books I recommend for you right now.
"Unstuck" by James Gordon
"The Language of Letting Go" by Melody Beattie
This is your life, take charge of it and live it the way you want and don't let the blue's monster take the wheel!0 -
