Kenalog (steroids for allergies) Side effects?

I've had some seriously BAD allergies over the past couple weeks and in a fit of desperation went to my doctor to get a prescription. Instead of a scrip, they injected me with a shot of Kenalog (40mg), a popular steroid. Now, I only learned of a few potential side effects while at the doctor - upset stomach, nausea, headache - but I'm getting other odd side effects like extremely itchy / dry skin, dizziness, aches, constipation, hot flashes (ugh...wtf? I'm 26 for reference...) It eliminated a majority of my allergy issues, but now I'm getting these other strange issues.

So...has anyone out there had experience with this stuff? How long did your symptoms hang around?

I had kenalog treatments for a keloid I had removed from my ear last year. My doctor warned me that it would spike my blood sugar pretty badly, so expect that. Other than that, I felt fine.
  • Wow barneystinson, I hope I don't get these side effects. I had an injection today for my bad allergies and sinus problems. I've had Celestone a few years ago, which is also an injectable steroid, and never had any adverse side effects from it. Hope it goes the same way with Kenalog.

Just curious, how long did your symptoms last? Or maybe you still have them...? The only ones I was told about was the "dimple" at the injection site, which was my upper arm by the way, and the heavier flow.

I have not had kenalog, but I have had prednisone and other corticosteroids at other times for migraine issues. Almost every time I had hot flashes (I don't know if you can really call them hot flashes because I was hot/sweaty ALL the time), but as I diminished the dose, or the injection wore off, they got better. The other big side effect for me was achiness all over.

Hope your allergies are better soon!

I think you really need to call your doctor. They need to know when you have extreme side effects. When you get itchy it could be from another allergic reaction. Call your doctor right away.,

I worked for a group of retina eye specialists so I've only ever seen Kenalog injected into the eye, but I never heard of anyone having any side effects.. although really that's a whole different ball game since the eye doesn't have immune response.
