If a bag of frozen boneless, skinless chicken breasts say "average 5oz portion", do you log it as the 5oz portion OR do you weigh it once you've cooked it and then log that amount?

After weighing my "5oz portion", my food scale says 2.7oz!

TIA

I weigh what I eat, and log that.

To be more accurate, you probably want to weigh what you're planning on eating. The general advice is to weigh meat raw, though, since the nutritional information for meat on the packaging is for it in its raw state. :)

Thanks for the feedback. Good point, davis_em. I'll do that next time.

or use the USDA info instead of the package information.

I weigh what goes on my plate (or bowl) at the time of consumption; i.e., after cooking or the microwave, if applicable. [BTW, I weigh by grams for better accuracy.]

Well, grams gives finer precision, accuracy can still be off, for example if you weigh cooked, but log raw, and don't account for shrink during cooking method.

    etc.
