Hi, i am a 25 years old and trying to get in shape and lose a few pounds. for the past month or so i have been down to around 1200 calories a day and i do exercise quite a bit (burning 300-800 calories daily). i do eat back the calories i work off as i started to feel sick when i didn't. however for the past 2 weeks i haven't lost any weight. i am currently at 129-130(started at 140) and my goal is 125. i am not perfect and do some days go over my calorie limit but for the most part i am always under. does anyone have any suggestions of what else i can do. i hike, jog and walk most days. i play soccer 1-2 times a week and my obs keep me on my feet for a good part of the day... how can i lose those last 5 pounds?

1200 is very low if you are not a small person (I am). What does MFP say your goal should be? Are you lifting any weight/doing resistance training of any kind? That will help over time...

It's normal to plateau after a loss, sometimes for many weeks at a time. If this has been working for you, just be patient.

You need to eat more. Eating 1200 calories a day while burning 300 to 800 calories in exercise is not conducive to weight loss. A rest day or two would probably help as well.

It took a long time for me to lose the last five pounds. I did it my staying near my TDEE which is about 1800 calories a day, and not eating more when I exercised. It worked and it helped that I really believed in the calorie deficit principle. I was also relaxed about the scale not changing. I knew that I was losing about .25 of a pound a week based on my deficit. My scale, of course , did not reflect this... It showed a three pound loss here, a five pound gain there. And so on. I say just keep going and eventually ( be patient it could be a few months) you will see results.

Congratulations on being so close to your goal weight! Since you are so close to your goal weight it is not uncommon to see the scale move slowly. I would suggest switching something up with your routine, weather it's changing up your food, or your workout.

    Good Luck

Op... I could be wrong, but I think you said that you eat back your exercise calories? So that means that on some days you have 2000. Is this correct?

Oops, sorry I missed that part! I definitely would encourage a rest day or two...it definitely helped me.

I've been at maintenance since last July, but have been doing a bit of fine tuning recently, hoping to shed a little more body fat. I've been using calorie cycling (or zigzagging) while keeping a modest weekly deficit. Maybe something to explore?

Yes, i eat back what i burn off, i normally aim to be about 100-150 calories under my daily allowance to account for those little things that dont necessarily get counted. ( like a bit of cranberry juice in my water)

rest day. as in eat what i want or stick to 1200 calories and dont exercise?? i
