Hi I'm new to this, so my issue is I'm finding it difficult to understand how the calorie calculator here works. I weigh around 90-95 kgs, heights around 180-183 and age is 17. Through running and exercise I burn around 1000-1400 calories a day and eat around 1500-1800 and I;m trying to lose around 5000 calories a week, so what I don't understand is on the MFP homepage where it shows your calorie intake goal and excise on a line, how it works because I don't get how I can burn more a day, there is something about a BMR in which I got 2170.31 a day, what does this mean? Can someone please explain this to me.

Sounds like you're not eating nearly enough calories. 1800 alone is really low for a male and 1500 is starvation level for a male. I wouldn't eat any less than 2200 a day for a starting point especially if you are burning 1000-1400 calories a day. I can't imagine you not bonking eating at 1500-1800 a day and burning 1000-1400. Bonking is not a good thing and you want to make sure to eat enough so that doesn't happen! Aim for losing 1-2 pounds a week (roughly .5-1kg). That's a healthy weight loss rate that you want to aim for. I hope this helps!

You need to be 18 to use MFP; please go to Sparkteens where they can help you out more.

Thanks Mark, so I had made a miscalculation yesterday, I actually burned 700 by running and workout and at around 1526 which was was not on purpose, just not hungry enough. So does a person actually burn other calories during the day to achieve a deficit? And malibu927, I am 18 years old, I might've accidentally pressed 7 instead of an 8.

Sure you would! You would just lie!

If you're going to lie and stick around, then make sure you read up on how MFP works.

Most of the calories you burn during a day are from things your body would do even if you spent the whole day in bed. You have some additional calories that you burn from normal activities like brushing your teeth and walking around and whatever. Then there are the calories that you burn from exercises such as running. To know how many calories you burned in a day, you have to account for all of those.

We have many people join who are 14-17, even though it's against rules. They get banned immediately.

Okay, if you are of age... Your BMR is what you burn just by living. That, combined with your day-to-day activities (work/school/cooking/cleaning/shopping) and your exercise constitutes your TDEE. The goal is to stay under that number. I'm assuming you set MFP to a .75kg deficit, since you said 5000 calories per week. You should be eating what it gives you plus half of your exercise calories to keep your body fueled.

Thanks guys, So its 10:32 am right now and so far I have eaten and drank 1287 Calories and through a 7K with weights and workout burned around 850-900 calories. So as I am aiming to lose around 1.1 kg a week I need around 4500 of weekly deficit, what should I do each day to achieve this?

How many calories did MFP tell you to eat to lose 1kg per week when you put in your goals? Eat that. If you log exercise MFP will add those additional calories to your daily goal, and you can eat those extra calories while maintaining the same deficit. However, it is important to note that if you are using the MFP database to estimate exercise burns, these have a tendency to overestimate so many people choose to eat back only half of their exercise calories.
