I enjoy working out to DVDs at home, especially while the gym is full of people after New Year and the weather is freezing cold. I've wanted a Wii and Wii Fit for years but haven't been able to afford one til now (and I'll be buying second hand!)

Are they worth the money? Or should I stick to workout DVDs? Any personal opinions gratefully received.

I think they are worth it, not just for the actual workout games but for games like Just Dance and Wii Sports Resort. When it's crappy out & I don't feel like leaving the house my boyfriend & I will play a few rounds of "tennis" or "boxing" or I'll put in one of the Just Dance games & while it may not be a disciplined workout, it's still moving my body vs. sitting on my butt watching t.v. I do like the Wii Fit too, there are a bunch of great workout games and there are different levels you can work out at, which is nice. I've picked up most of my games second hand through Ebay & groups on Facebook, so I don't think I've ever paid more than $15 for any game. I think it's a good investment because of the fun factor alone.

I have gotten great use out of my wii. I don't use it to replace other workouts necessarily, but its a great supplement, especially if I'm pressed for time. My two favorites are Zumba (I actually get sweating pretty quickly with this) and The Biggest Loser game. I don't watch the show and despise the premise, but the workouts on the game are nicely varied and customizable for time. The circuit training option hits you everywhere, including cardio, and the boxfit is fun and gets your heart rate nicely elevated. I enjoy Just Dance for the fun- as the other poster said its definitely better than sitting on the couch. But I do find it to be arm heavy and barely moves my heart rate. Boxing can be fun and good. I say its worth the money. Totally fun.

It works well for getting some activity on bad weather days. It can also be used to access Youtube and Amazon instant video workouts. I have the original Wii with Wii fit, Biggest loser game, and the sports resort. I use a Fitbit now and sometimes I want something different to get in extra steps, the Wii is good for that.
