So I understand about fats and calories and sugars, and I do really well at staying under these goals...but I seem to go over my protein every day. My question is how bad is this?

What's the deal with protein...pros and cons.

Thanks

Are you using the setting that MFP provided for protein because they have it set low. Generally, it's suggested to be 40-45% carbohydrates or carbs, 25-30% protein and 30-35% fat each day. You can go in and change the settings for this ratio by clicking on My Home, Goals, Change Goal, Custom. I currently have mine set at 50% carbs, 25% protein, 25% fat.

Here are some articles that will help:

It's my understanding that excess protein can be turned into fat, however the exercised muscles use the protein to rebuild more quickly, so if you're say doubling the amount you should have, it might be stored as fat, but if you're breaking down muscle regularly and only going a little bit over I wouldn't be concerned.

I was taking 2 protein shakes a day while training for boxing and the weight was melting off still.
