How did this happen?!

I just stepped on the scale after a year away from MFP, my Fitbit and, obviously, conscious and healthy moving and eating.
When I saw the number staring back at me, I was SURE that my scale had somehow broken or become massively uncalibrated during my year away. But nooooo - this actually makes, sense, in terms of all those clothes that I can't squeeze into anymore.
How did this happen?! I used to have about 40 pounds to lose. Now? About 60 pounds - or more. I'm not sure where to (re)start, but this is as good a place as any.
