I'm torn as far as calories MFP has given me. The app has given me 2400 calories but I feel like that's a lot of calories to be taking in when I'm trying to loose weight on days when I don't excessive and may snack I really only use 1700 and am told I may not be eating enough. Obviously I don't want to over eat and I am slightly paranoid that I will but I know that if I don't eat enough I could be doing more harm than good...I know I should discuss this with a doctor if I have any concerns but that's not an option for me yet until my insurance gets worked out

If you inputted your information correctly, eat what MFP gives you. You don't want to eat too little because it will increase muscle loss along the way. It is hard to understand that you don't need to really cut calories to lose but, eating more is best.

Try eating what MFP gives you for three weeks to see where you are and what you lose. That will give you a better idea if the numbers are correct. The larger you are, the more calories it takes just to maintain your body on a daily basis. As you lose weight, MFP will decrease your calories.

This^^^. I would just try to reach that number of calories over the next few weeks and see what happens. You would be surprised how much you can still eat and lost weight. Your calories will decrease over time as you lose weight. I am a little jealous I will admit. I wish they gave me 2400 calories a day to play with. :) I'm currently at 1750, but I started out at about your calorie level. I have lost almost 70 pounds now and my calorie allotment has decreased quite a bit. Take advantage of what you are given, and reassess after a few weeks if it's not working. It's important that you not deprive your body of what it needs.

Far too many people who use this site DRASTICALLY undereat, and as a result they're going to see some long term metabolic effects from it.
During fat loss, your goal should be to eat as much as you can while still losing weight, not losing as fast as you can.

You put weight on slowly, you should take it off slowly. Trust the MFP program.
