what do people mean when they refer to this?

    Macronutrients - protein, fat, carbs generally. But can also mean sodium, sugar...there are MFP settings on your food diary that will let you track specific ones. If you're healthy, you want a good mix of mostly protein and the remainder half and half fat and carbs. If you have blood pressure issues, track your sodium. Diabetes, lower your carbs and track your sugar (that may not be accurate I'm guessing)...etc etc.
