Modify, Wait, or Work In?

If you have a set workout routine, but go to the gym and find that it's packed and certain machines or squat racks are taken, what do you do?
This is my own issue, but I kind of find it hard talking to people so I usually just modify my workout and do a different exercise until whatever I want to use is free.
What do you do under such a circumstance?

I switch the order of my exercises when possible, wait when it's the best option, and do alternate exercises as a last resort. I've never asked to work in.0

Another option is switch to a routine with more variety of exercise options.0

I swap the order of lifts, do accessories or wait depending situation. For squat rack I will wait by using leg press or one of the machines. Bench hasn't been too difficult but I can always move to dumbbell or something during that time. I don't ask to work in because it seems like such a hassle between changing the weight and if it's the squat rack moving the bar cause not many are as short as me. I always go when I've got plenty of time, so a little waiting doesn't cause much bother.0
